Colorado August — what to expect.

High altitude, blazing afternoon sun, and the chance of an evening thunderstorm. A little prep goes a long way.

Bring These
  • 🎟️
Ticket & charged phone — Screenshot your ticket before arriving. Cell service can be spotty at the airport.
  • ☀️
Sunscreen, sunglasses & a hat — Gates open at 4:30 PM. UV at 5,400 ft is intense. Reapply every 2 hours.
  • 🪑
Chair or blanket (GA) — No seating in the GA viewing area. Bring your own to stay comfortable all night.
  • 👂
Ear protection — Warbird engines are extremely loud. Essential for kids and anyone near the flight line.
  • 🧥
Light jacket or layers — Warm when you arrive, cold after sunset. August nights at altitude drop fast.
  • 🌧️
Rain poncho — ~30% chance of an afternoon storm. Compact, easy to pack, very glad to have.
  • 💧
Empty refillable water bottle — Free fill stations on-site. Stay ahead of altitude dehydration.

  • 💳

A birthday 150 years in the making.

Colorado turns 150 on August 1, 2026. The Mile High 150 Expo is the state's headline Colorado Day celebration — produced by 1943 Events and the Commemorative Air Force Mile High Wing, and directed by the Mile High Air Boss.

Our mission: honor the pioneers, pilots, performers, and everyday Coloradans who lift this state higher — and create a once-in-a-century memory for all who attend.

without you.

Behind every warbird flyover, every crowd moment, every memory made at the Mile High 150 Expo — there's a volunteer who showed up early, stayed late, and gave their time so others could experience something extraordinary.

We don't take that lightly. Our volunteers are not just helpers — they are the heart of this celebration. Colorado's 150th birthday deserves people who care, and we are grateful for every single one of you who raises your hand.
